Welcome to my dandy website! I'm Helena Rae, graphic designer, illustrator, and artist, living on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada. My creative endeavours are a triptych of Dandy Kids, Artwork, and Dandy Graphics.

I studied graphic design, illustration, and fine arts, earning a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication from the Alberta University of the Arts. During my 20+ years at design agencies and freelancing, I have created design solutions for a wide range of clients and projects, from logo & brand identities to package design and product promotion. I also worked for several years at a company specialising in educational and promotional materials for children.

Dandy Graphics launched in 2008, specializing in logos and branding for small businesses, package design, educational and marketing materials for children, and information design.

Dandy Kids evolved from teaching ESL to children overseas. I identified a need for quality flashcards that communicate clearly, and with colourful fun imagery that appeals to young learners. This natural opportunity fit my experience and style of graphic artwork and has inspired me to design my own curriculum of flashcards for teaching English to children from kindergarten and up. It's a work in progress and I continue to add to my portfolio.

My Artwork is inspired by natural surroundings, expressed in watercolour landscapes - clouds, oceans, fields, architecture - imagery collected from my travels that instinctively draw me towards seaside places, (the Pacific, Atlantic, and the South China Sea). After a 4-year stint living in Asia, I returned to Canada’s west coast and now find solace and joy with my art.
